When doing a CrossFit workout and given the option to do rowing or running – choose running! The WOD on Monday was 3 rounds of the following for time:
- Row or Run 400M
- 15 Wallballs
- 20 PushUps
- 15 Box Jumps
- 15 Pullups
I decided that since I just did an 11 mile long run on Sunday that I should row instead of run the measly 400m. Wrong answer! I’m not too fast with the rowing machine because I’ve never used it before so I definitely could have run 400m way faster than I finished the row (about 2:10). Had I given it some thought, I would not have done the row when I realized how much upper body work there was in the rest of the workout. After the rowing, the wallballs (you throw/catch a 10-pound medicine ball while squatting) and the (girly) pushups – I was dead by the time I got to the pullups. I did the first round using the blue band (which is either medium or the hardest) and I could barely get through. It got a little easier when I switched to the green band but it still wasn’t much fun.
I finished in 18:06 which isn’t too bad I guess. I am a little sore about the shoulders today. This is very encouraging because in less than 20 minutes and with no traditional weights or machines I wore myself out! I can sense those real pullups coming in no time flat.

hHAHAAAAAA That sounds like a beast of a workout!!! I can handle it all except the pull ups.. I’m such a damn punk when it comes to those.
I can’t do a full pullup either. They have these thick resistance bands around the pullup bar. You put one foot in the band and it cuts the amount of your body weight you lift (depending on how strong the band is). Sort of like a poor man’s assisted pullup machine LOL. I think it is so funny when the men in there use the bands too. I guess pullups aren’t really easy for *anybody*!
