- Working on that birth story….yup sure am.
- Thank God for mothers, sisters and mothers-in-law. They are the only way I’ve been able to get a nap!
- Baby Lewis’ had a photo session at the house the other day. The pictures are beautiful. Some things are just worth getting professionally done. Thanks so much Amy!
- I feel like all the exercise I did during pregnancy really helped with this c-section thing. I feel pretty much fine now at almost 2 weeks post-op although I am still taking it very easy until I get the all clear from my doctor. Even in the hospital after surgery, the nurses seemed surprised that I had enough strength in my arms and legs to prop myself up when needed.
- You really lose your dignity/humility in the hospital after a C-Section. I mean, someone is taking care of your nether regions for you. The recovery from that was more invasive than the actual labor part. Of course, I didn’t push him out so maybe not.
- Breastfeeding assistance was humbling too. I can’t count the number of times random nurses grabbed my chest to help me out. I didn’t even care after a while LOL. I think everyone has seen them now and it doesn’t even matter.
- Bending over is still a bit of a challenge, but I can deep squat with the best of them (thanks CrossFit!).
- Breastfeeding is HARD. I knew it would be hard but goodness gracious!
- I can’t wait to get the all-clear to drive. I feel like I would be fine, but I’m being good. I feel trapped in the house. Having to get someone to drive you to the grocery store is very annoying.

The photos are G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S! I think Marlie and Lewis would make a very cute couple :-}
Can’t wait to read the birth story!
I love it – and older woman for my boy! Marlie is adorable too!
Breast feeding can be hard, but it’s so worth sticking it out if you can. Having an epidural or c-section can make it harder for the baby to get the hang of it– don’t think many folks know that. It took me a long time with my first and there were so many things I didn’t know about that were contributing factors. I hope you have some good help w/ it. Good luck! And if it doesn’t work out, no condemation, OK?!
Yeah, I’m realizing some mistakes I made in the hospital already like not pumping every 2 hours like only *one* nurse told me. He was really sleepy the first few days in the hospital and I don’t think I really got much of that initial colostrum milk in unfortunately. We had lots of trouble latching too and the lactation people didn’t make it in until Monday afternoon (I had him Sat night). I consulted with an LC after leaving the hospital, but right now I’ve moved to pumping only. We had more latch issues and then he didn’t regain his birthweight so the ped told us to supplement. It all got so frustrating that I decided that I prefer to pump. At least then I know he’s getting food and I’m not hurting. Not as fun for bonding as BF though!
You are right on to go with the flow in the beginning when it comes to feedings and such. I waited for Marlie to set up her own schedule. I noticed that she was wanting to nurse around same time every day, then I just built a routine around that. It just happened on its own around 6 weeks though some babies might take longer. Meanwhile, enjoy bonding-the time flies by so quickly!
I had to pump for the first few weeks. That mess was so painful and life consumingv that is was a relief to get the baby drinking direct. I nicknamed her milkdrinker because she was much more effecient than a pump.
Those nurses in maternity had to be angels before they were born. I did hear them say maternity is a pretty peaceful department to work in. Whether the birth was natural or c-section the women are moving gingerly and it’s usually quiet.
I am looking forward to doing it all again.
Thanks for checking in with us! It’s great to hear from a brand new mommy.
I actually like pumping because I know how much he’s getting and it doesn’t hurt me. We were having lots of latch issues (probably because of nipple confusion). It was all just so frustrating. I miss the bonding time and the “ease of use” (just whip it out!). I try to remember though, that I’m doing it for him so that he can have some breastmilk and it gets me through.
Still waiting for you to give TR a sister or brother!
Those photos are gorgeous. I love the cocoon. It’s very creative.
photos are GORGEOUS!!! I did that as well with my two.. their initial shoots were at home..
your workouts prior to giving birth is DEFINITELY what is helping you be strong now but don’t rush it.. c-sections are tricky things.. *I’ve had 2* LOL.. and trust I wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy..
ENJOY the time now that you “can’t” do anything.. trust me once you get back into the full swing of things you’ll be begging for that down time LOL
don’t wait for the family to take naps.. take naps when he take naps..
warm compresses for your breasts to help with pumping.. especially if you plan to breast feed once you go back to work.. I’m sure there are plenty of new techniques out but hey I’m old and I followed the old school ways taught by my mom and granny LOL
Umm wait.. were those photos of Lewis on her page? I’m just realizing they could have just been advertising photos.. *le sigh* lol
Nope, the baby in the first blog entry is my baby!
OMG – those pictures are adorable. Let me tell you – those are the first pictures I’ve seen in a LONG time that had me considering having one…for a brief second, then I came to my sense, LOL. Lewis is too handsome for his pampers.
That warms my heart! I know you aren’t trying to have any kids LOL.
How are you new mama?
I have a present for you on my blog, please stop by and pick it up (when you have time…I know the concept of ‘time’ is laughable!)
Ohmygoodness Kia, I’m so late but I see your little bundle of joy is here safe and sound! And he is just so handsome. I loved the pictures that you got taken, simply genius. I see alot of daddy in him but I see you peeking through too.
I know all didn’t go like planned with the birth but at least it all went well and because of your fabulous physique, you are well on your way to mending just right. I’m hoping the breastfeeding is coming along in some form or fashion. I understand the pain of it being so hard and just push through as best as you can with whatever you can do. You would think you just whip the breast out and it would work but it so didn’t happen like that for me. At least I lasted longer this time with baby girl than with Matt. Just try not to feel bad about it if you decide to just supplement all the way.
Anyhoo, I know your probably delirious and trying to figure out which way is up, I’ll be checking back for that birth story.
