Jogging Stroller

Tax return $$ is coming in soon (yay!) and I’m allowing myself to splurge on a jogging stroller.  I am currently using a simple Snap-N-Go stroller frame type thing.  It works fine for the few times we go out and about but on simple walks in the neighborhood it isn’t too good.

I am torn between the BOB Revolution and the BOB Ironman.  I want to train for longer races later in the year and would love to hit the paved running trail with Lewis.  In fact, that taking Lewis with me may be the ONLY way I can find time to train for a half-marathon. But once Lewis grows out of his carseat the stroller frame is no good, so I want this stroller to be able to replace that stroller too.  The Ironman is better for running only (front-wheel is locked) and the Revolution is more all-purpose but supposedly not that great for jogging.

Has anyone used either of these strollers before?  Is there another type of jogging stroller that you highly recommend?  I plan to chat with the good people at my local REI store but they have a vested interest in me spending more money!

  1. my neighbor jogs with her kid and uses a Schwinn. she swears by it. she also uses it for errands. I think you also have to factor in the size of your car’s storage space because the joggers are bulkier.

btw, our dog is a Maltese

Ah, I didn’t even think of the storage space. My sedan has a decent sized trunk so I should be OK with most things. Malties are so cute! It was hard to tell if it was a small dog or not because he looks big next to little Marlie!

OK, what’s up with the stroller with the front wheel locked? I don’t understand that – it’s not like you run in a straight line all the time (if I’m thinking of the same stroller).

I walked a 5k last June while my friends ran it. Since I was the only one in the group walking – I agreed to push the baby. That locked wheel annoyed the heck out of me when we had to turn and I can only imagine how much it would destroy momentum had I been running. I was walking at a pretty fast pace too.

So my only recommendation would be to get one where the front wheel turns – but I’m sure the manufacturers know something I don’t, LOL

What kind of stroller was it that you pushed? I think the thing with the locking is to prevent drifting to the side which happens with a swivel stroller if the path is uneven. It is already a hassle to have the extra weight so to have to worry about correcting the path would be extra annoying.

I keep hearing good things about the BOB Revolution but I am not a hard core trainer so I got a cheaper baby trend jogging stroller. Read reviews on amazon and other sites, those are always helpful when I am looking to purchase a new product.
