Ok, I’m not trying to laugh, but you can totally tell you are about to cry in the pic with D! And that sausage looks good!
I miss your Mom!!!
Thanks for sharing pics. I almost feel like I was there cheering you on. *sniff sniff*
That’s because I *was* about to cry. I was really disappointed. I came across the finish line really upset that I’d done so poorly (compared to how I trained). I was just happy that it was over.
CONGRATULATIONS!! You are awesome AND you have the most rockin’ arms ever! You look great and are truly an inspiration!! I MIGHT head to the gym after work today…might…maybe..
You should be so proud of yourself! That marathon was tough! And to endure those conditions on your first try and fare so well is awesome. You still finished under the average time of all participants! And you looked great doing it!
When I did this race 4 years ago I made my goal but was still so upset at the finish. I felt absolutely awful and couldn’t believe anyone in their right mind would do this to themselves. 4 years later I have run 14 marathons and improved almost 20 minutes. And after this one I was only a little stiff.
Get your recovery over with and see if you can’t find a 10k or a half marathon where you can go out and race to your potential! Don’t give up on marathoning yet if you can. It is a cruel mistress but when you are successful it is such a sweet victory. You can only get better from here. I have no doubts on a better day you would have achieved your goal.
Take away what you can from the experience. I am sure you must realize how tough you are to have done so well in such conditions, and wearing tights! I would have ripped off my skirt and top out there if I had a bikini on and I was already dressed pretty minimally.
Having this be your first is tough, because you don’t have another marathon to compare it to, but trust me, no one did as well as they expected to Saturday. If they did they were sand bagging on their goals big time! Because the conditions just weren’t right for a good day out there.
Anyways congrats on your first marathon finish (I had two marathon veteran friends who called it a day out there without even finishing because they were so miserable!) you should be so proud even if it is tempered with disappointment.
I really needed to hear something like this from another marathoner that was there. Thanks so much!
but I had to say it. I may never ever do what you did as will the majority of the great and unwashed masses. Im proud of you, woman.
Thanks MizFit! When you are out there with 3000 other runners it doesn’t really feel like you are doing something special. I’m slowly coming to realize that it was a *big* thing.
[...] do a marathon again? I don’t know. I would have unequivocally said no a few days ago, but this comment made me think twice. Thanks Elizabeth. Your words mean a lot. I needed to hear that from [...]
WOW!! Keyalus, this is truly AWESOME! You did great, even though I can say I will never run a marathon. You are an inspiration.
Determination pays off!
Thanks Fergie! All of my family members that were there said they were happy for me too but they still don’t ever want to run a marathon LOL!
