I had three fitness related goals for 2008:
I am happy to say that I have now completed all of my goals! On Friday, our CrossFit workout consisted of 7 weighted pullups. For the men, that meant strapping on a belt and some barbell plates to make the pullups harder. For me, that meant saying bye-bye to my trusty blue 20lb removing band and using only my bodyweight.
Earlier in the week after another workout, I decided to try a deadhang pullup just because. I figured it wouldn’t happen since I was already tired. Well it did! I made sure that I was doing it big boy style. I used the box to reach the bar (I’m way short) and then dropped to a hang so there was no cheating, no momentum, no kipping, no nothing. I started lifting up and when I reached the point when I typically can’t go on I eased up and my chin cleared the bar. Talk about surprised! I had to verify with one of the trainers that I had actually done it LOL.
Somehow I still wasn’t exactly convinced going into the Friday workout. Maybe it was a fluke? It wasn’t. I did 6 deadhang pullups (resting in between reps). I couldn’t make the 7th no matter how hard I tried but I didn’t need to.
I feel strong. I love that.
Wow! that is GREAT NEWS Keyalus!!! You are the first person that I have ever known (seen, heard, read about) that has met a goal like this. Congrats! You are so inspiring!!!
Thanks Keelah! I had a good 2008 fitness wise and I’ve got new goals for next year. The good thing about exercise is that there is always something you can get better at or something new to work up to. It keeps me from being bored and helps me make sure that I’m getting stronger and not stuck in a rut.
